1923<\/td>Rolf Tschierschky is born on 27 July in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, to the painter and sculptor, Alfred Tschierschky and his wife, Adele (n\u00e9e Biesenbach).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1930-38<\/td>Attends the Volksschule (primary school) in Frankfurt am Main, passes his Hauptschule (secondary school) exams in 1938. In a school student contest about \u201cHand and Craft work in National Socialist Germany\u201d he wins first prize for the quality of illustrations.\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1938-42<\/td>Technical draughtsman and employee in the advertising department of the company Siemens in Berlin.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1942-45<\/td>He is drafted into military service as a naval radio operator and together with others, works on the design, performance and staging of productions for soldiers and civilians in Ahlbeck, Schleswig-Holstein.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1945-47<\/td>Captive of war in Schleswig-Hostein and member of the travelling troupe \u201cBunte Gruppe Tating\u201d (Vivid Group Tating). With these players he is responsible for the technical and artistic design and also has the chance to become friends with some Americans and Englishmen.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1948-53<\/td>Attends evening classes in painting and art history at the \u201cSt\u00e4delschule\u201d Staatliche Hochschule f\u00fcr Bildende K\u00fcnste (state-sponsored institute of higher learning for painting and art history) in Frankfurt am Main under the guidance of Theo Garve and Arno K\u00f6nig. Professionally, he works as a graphic artist in the advertising department at the company Hartmann & Braun. Here, he also is engaged in various capacities with the company's trade show presentations.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1953-56<\/td>Studies at the Staatliche Werkakademie (public academy of applied arts) in Kassel. He has graphic design with Hans Leistikow and set design with Teo Otto. Rolf Tschierschky wins first prize in a set design contest sponsored by the Staatstheater Kassel (state-sponsored theatre in Kassel.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1954<\/td>Collaboration on the first documenta under the direction of Arnold Bode.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1957<\/td>Marries in May Gertrud Koch, who was born on 6 September 1945 in Bohmte near Osnabr\u00fcck and was the daughter of Anne-Marie Koch, n\u00e9e Fuldner (1894-1976) and Dr. Friedrich Koch (1886-1939), who was a member of the agricultural council.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1957<\/td>First son is born.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1957-60<\/td>Rolf Tschierschky is active as a set designer in Hamburg at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus (German Theatre) working under Gustaf Gr\u00fcndgens, and later at the \"Staats- und Zimmertheater\" in Kassel, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, and the city of Bonn\u2019s theatre.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1958<\/td>Collaboration on the design of the German pavilion at the World Exhibition in Brussels. Additionally, he participates in the creation of mosaics at the Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt am Main under Hans Leistikow\u2019s guidance.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1959<\/td>Birth of the first daughter.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1960-65<\/td>Industrial graphic designer and display designer at the company Fritz Borsi KG in Offenburg.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1961<\/td>Birth of the second son.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1962<\/td>Works for three months as an educator in a home for apprentices run by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Husum. During his work with these young people \u2212 some of whom are suffering learning disabilities and from other difficulties \u2212 he encounters the downside of the so-called \u201ceconomic miracle\u201d of those times.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1963<\/td>Birth of the second daughter.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1965<\/td>Move to Mengeringhausen to the house built by his wife\u2019s grandfather, August Friedrich Koch. He obtains a public servant position in the road construction office in Bad Arolsen and works as a freelancer in the areas of painting, graphic design and set design.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1966<\/td>Birth of third son.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1983<\/td>Takes early retirement and works as an independent artist in the areas of advertising, object design, festival design and performance, and creating glass windows. Founding of \u201cStudio T\u201d.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1984<\/td>Planning, project design and all the advertising for the city of Mengeringhausen\u2019s 750th year anniversary festivities.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1988<\/td>Design and creation of the glass painting, \u201cVerbr\u00fcderung und Vers\u00f6hnung\u201d (Brotherhood and Reconciliation) as a present from the city of Arolsen to its sister city Heusden-Zolder in Belgium.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1993<\/td>Produces the relief model of the 8 metre high \u201cMagical Light and Music Clock\" (has not yet been realized).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1996<\/td>Participates in a competitions sponsored by the measurement technology company Meywald-Messtechnik called \"Der Mensch \u2013 das Ma\u00df\" (The Human \u2013 the Measure.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2001<\/td>Design and production of the open air stage lighting for the musical \"Vivat Hamlet!\" by his grandson, Sven Hinz, that was performed in Freiburg, Germany.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2002\/03<\/td>Design of a pavilion with kinetic mirror effects and sculptures from the artist Christian Daniel Rauch in the Bad Arolsen City Museum (was not realized).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
