Frankfurt painting

This painting is undoubtedly the most important in Rolf Tschierschky’s entire body of work. It is the quintessence of his Frankfurt years as it compresses his memories of the city and serves as a window to the soul of his childhood and adolescence.
The number three plays an obvious role in this painting, and in numerical mythology it represents the family. In this Tschierschky work, there are three vertical axes that arrange the painting into three surfaces: On the left is the Dreikönigskirche, the Dom (cathedral) is found in the middle, and on the right are three poplar trees on the Main island. Three levels of depth also stagger the painting. The Dreikönigskirche takes the foreground, the poplars are in the middle whilst the Dom is in the background.
