Interior of a Church in Tating

In the painting “Kirchenraum in Tating” (Interior of a Church in Tating), the subject is the St. Magnus church. This is likely the oldest building on the peninsula of Eiderstedt in North Friesland, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Tschierschky painted it in 1945 when he was only 23 years old and a war prisoner of the English. The mastery of technique and artisanship demonstrated in this early painting is astonishing, as can be seen by comparing it to the photo of the actual church.
